About Me

My name is Carlie Borris, I live near Warburg ab with my husband and our 3 children. I am known to be a quieter person. Not one to be known for my communication skills.. And please remember I am a photographer not a writer so bare with me while I try to tell you a little about me haha.

Here we go..

I grew up in the rodeo world. Traveled to a rodeo every weekend from April until the end of September each summer. With my dad being a pick-up man we were able to camp at one rodeo each weekend. My parents home schooled my 3 sisters and myself which made it easier to travel as a family everywhere. I started out by taking pictures of my dad(Terry Leeder) picking up as well as the rodeo stock for Big Stone Rodeo(Bruce & Jacqueline Sundstrum). After the rodeo everyone would sit around the fire and my mom would pass my camera around showing the cowboys my pictures as I was pretty shy haha.

This is how I learnt my timing. They would all tell me what they did and didn't like and I'll tell you what, I learnt my timing pretty quick because I didn't want them looking through my camera and seeing the bad shots.. So I made sure that every photo I took would be good enough that when they looked through my camera, there would only be a few misses. Im a perfectionist.. I work on a task until i get it perfect, that's just how i am with everything, my dad is the same way. So when i miss a ride, don't worry it frustrates me more than you think. But I am human and i do make mistakes.

In CPRA you can not sell images without a card. This became my goal very quickly. Being young made this a challenge, but after a couple years I was finally a carded CPRA Photographer.

9 Years ago, I attended a funeral with my family. There I was introduced to this very polite, sensitive man who cleaned up pretty good too..

But my Second impression? About 2 months later. Couldn't stand the guy.. This wild crazy bareback rider was a party animal.

We didn't really talk much as I was a very shy person and he was not. Months later.. he got my number and texted me about someone wanting to use a photo I took of him on the cover of a book. After that he continued to text me. Turns out we had the same types of goals in life. During a conversation A couple months later he told me he would marry me in 3 years if i wasn't married. I ended up falling in love with that boy shortly after. We started dating in Jan 2015 and less than 3 years later we were married and expecting our first child.

Fast forward to 2023 we have a 5 year old son, 4 year old daughter, and our youngest son who is 3 years old. We may not live the life of riches and fame, but I could not imagine a better life. We have the best little family and i am thankful for the life we have. We live on a farm, my husband has a full-time job about 15mins from home and is also a volunteer fight fighter. He works hard for our family. I stay at home with our 3 children, lamb out 36 head of sheep and try to keep our chicks alive during the spring/summer while working to bring in an income as well. Thankfully I have an amazing husband and we work as a team. I couldn't image my life without him, he is the best husband and dad. Always putting family first and making sure we do everything as a family even if it takes 10 times longer to go somewhere. One of my favourite things about WRA rodeos is how family friendly they are, I can take pictures, Ryley rides and the kids are there with us 90% of the time. We are a busy Family.

Now as much as I love taking my family everywhere, Photo Sessions and Weddings I do not! I put 100% focus into your Session/Wedding. When booking a wedding I like to get to know you, find out your vision for your wedding day, check in to see if you need any help with timeline or any other questions. I have helped a lot of brides with their timeline so don't feel afraid to ask. A few weeks before your date I do send out a questionnaire. This helps me remember names, important times, locations, and you're feature moments of your day. Most of the time I show up early.. this allows me to set up my gear and be ready to start shooting at the time we have arranged. I am not one to rush things, I want you to be relaxed and comfortable during your session. With that being said I do follow your timeline so we are not late for anything. Now this is your day so needing someone to back you and tell a relative or friend nicely that they can not be in certain photos? Or ask lingering guests to allow the wedding party to take pictures in privet? Im your girl. In the end its your day and who is attending pictures is your choice and I'm there to support you when needed. In the many weddings I have done, I have learnt many tips and tricks on how to capture causal photos to really show your connection to one another.

Things i enjoy when I am not working on photography?

Enjoying time with our little family, Riding, Butchering, Baking, and of course lambing season.

My Goals?

-My goals are to run my business with my family as much as possible. Family is my everything and I barely go anywhere without them. That is why i enjoy rodeos and jackpot, I can take my family with me. Yes it is 100x harder with the kids! But it is worth it in the end.

Well I think you have heard enough about me.. thank you if you did read this far. I hope this allows you to understand me as a person and helps when it comes to deciding if i am the right photographer for you. And if you have any questions about rodeos, photo shoots or wedding please feel free to message me!
